This is most easily seen in the infl. region ; the branching is that of a rhipidium, but shoot i, which springs from the axil of a 1. on shoot i, is adnate to i up to the point at which the first 1. is borne on i; this 1. occupies the angle between the two shoots where they separate. Shoot i (and 2, 3, &c. successively) is pushed aside and bears an infl. (Eichler's Bliithendiag. or Nat. Pft. for details and figs.) L. long, linear, sheathing at base..
