The Russian wolf (Canis lupus communis) is a subspecies of gray wolf native to the northern regions of Russia and Siberia. The second largest subspecies of gray wolves compared to the Eurasian wolves.

Habitat:

Russian wolves are found in North-central Russia. They highly adapted to the northern parts of Russia, usually taiga forests, tundras and mountainous areas. They live in areas that were sparsely populated by humans.

Characteristics:

Russian wolves are comparable to both the tundra wolf and the Eurasian wolf in size and stature. They have a weight range from 66 - 180 lbs (30 - 80 kg), with males significantly heavier and larger than females.

The Russian wolves' fur coloration ranged from white to black, with shades of cool gray being more common than dusky or tawny hues. They have thick coats, adapted to its northern ranges.
