The winning combination of mountains and sea, well-rated healthcare and education systems, and diverse culture make Vancouver a regular high-flyer in rankings of the world’s most liveable cities. The most recent survey, the Global Liveability Index 2022 from the Economist Intelligence Unit, put the Canadian city in fifth place out of 172 locations, behind Vienna, Copenhagen, Zurich and its own near neighbour in British Columbia, Calgary, and well ahead of London (33) and Barcelona (35). That’s despite a high cost of living and persistent rainfall from October to May that earns the city the predictable sobriquet “Raincouver”. It might be Canada’s warmest city but it’s also a wet one.

The winning lifestyle appeal lies in the huge variety and big scenery beauty the city offers.
