The European honey-buzzard (Pernis apivorus) is considered a distinctive species of Kite.The honey-buzzard is a scarce passage migrant and rare summer breeder to Scotland. As summer migrant to northern Europe, honey-buzzards can occur in Scotland in a large variety of habitats from the remote islands to suburban areas in the Central belt. However, they usually occur along the east coast, particularly in Orkney and Shetland from late May to the end of September.
