Redwing - Turdus iliacus
Our smallest thrush, it is a common winter visitor. The pale stripe over the eye and the red patch on its flanks help to identify this bird.
It is mainly seen in the countryside, in fields and hedgerows, usually in sizeable flocks and often mixed together with Fieldfares. It occasionally visits gardens if the weather is particularly harsh.
October to March
It eats berries and worms.
Common and widespread in Britain
It is a common winter sight in Leicestershire and Rutland.
