Yellow-legged Gull - Larus michahellis

Yellow-legged Gull 1

Yellow-legged Gull - 1st winter. Quarteira harbour.

The Yellow-legged Gull is Portugal’s only resident large gull and everybody’s vision of the traditional ‘seagull’. Far outnumbered outside the breeding season by the Algarve’s other regular large gull – Lesser Black-backed Gull – it was once strictly coastal, a habit that has succumbed to the enticement of inland landfill sites.

Yellow-legged Gull2

Yellow-legged Gull - adult summer. Portimão.
