Sony touted this machine as the ipod killer, then abruptly took the item off production. It's too bad they did not keep it in production and refine the model. I own 2 of these mp3 players. They are larger and heavier than Ipods, but I believe are just as versitile. 40gb is enough memory for any audiophile. My players have over 10,000 songs, and I can still add photos from my camera from it with plenty of room to spare. The touch pad is alittle quirky, I usually just put it on shuffle play and get on with my workday. I purchase the original item at sonystyle for around $275, used one on EBAY usually run $125. Since I am invested timewise into Sony's sonic stage file conversion tools, this player works way better than anything Sony has produced to this date. I think Sony really F4cked up not investing more time into refining this player.Read full review
It's a nice looking player, good design, sets you apart from all the iPodders. Playback quality is great (at given bps). Good capacity. Music transfer is a bit of pain, since it supports only SonicStage (or Vaio file transfer) and those are significantly worse than iTunes. The player tends to freeze at times and needs to be reset.
I am an ownew of sony vaio 40 gb mp3 player. you cant really call it an mp3 player bacause to drop mp3;s on it you have to download special icon that will convert mp3's you can put them on this device. but thats not a big deal. compared to other players i would say that its very good for the price, nowdays you can get one for 200 on ebay.
I seen and plated with various MP3 Player, and this one is BY FAR The best one. Sonicstage is a pain but you can live with it. Everything works excellent and nothing breaks. I am extremly happy with this play and would recommend it over the Ipod no questions asked. And about conversion, every player converts the music into it's native format. The Ipod does it and so does this one. But conversion wise this one is 500 times better than the Ipod one.
