One person was injured early Friday morning when a fire destroyed a multi-unit townhome in Windsor Heights, according to reports from several Iowa news outlets.

Fire crews responded to the scene at Windsor Park Townhomes, located in the 6700 block of School Street, around 2:30 a.m., WHO Radio News first reported.

Officers with the Windsor Heights Police Department evacuated the building, which houses four townhome units, the city's public safety director Chad McCluskey told WHO 13.

The building is considered to be a complete loss, according to WHO 13, whose reporter on the scene this morning said the fire also damaged cars and burned down two garages.

MidAmerican shut off power to neighboring homes this morning as a safety precaution, Local 5 News reported.

The cause of the fire and where it started is still unknown, according to a report from KCCI, which said fire crews remain on the scene.
