Description: | Very small drab sandpiper with short slightly-decurved to straight bill, short pale legs varying from yellow to brown-gray, and grayish breast. In flight, shows white tail sides. |
Adult (Breeding): | Gray above with black markings. |
Adult (Non-breeding): | Uniform gray above. |
Similar Species: | Differs from other shorebirds by small size, dark breast, and pale legs. |
Behavior: | Often solitary. Moves slowly with distinctly hunched posture. |
Habitat: | Muddy edges of lakes or ponds. |
Food: | Small invertebrates. |
