SEEDS OF SILVER BIRCH - BETULA PENDULA

Ornamental, medicinal and forest tree cultivated in lines and on huge spaces.

Its silvered bark and foliage are of great ornamental value. It is planted along streets and roads and usually in foggy areas so to warn drivers with this so white trunk. An essential oil is produced from its bark. It has diuretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties among many others. From its bark also are made water pipes, clogs, fabrics. Alcoholic beverages are made with the sap of this tree in some European regions.

Medium-sized deciduous tree, typically reaching 15-25 m tall. Beautiful whitish bark with black stripes.The flowers are wind-pollinated catkins, produced before the leaves in early spring. Light green, triangular leaves.

Prefers sandy siliceous acid and fresh soils.

Sowing at temperatures of 10ºC night/20ºC day. Lightly cover the seeds and maintain the humidity until germination is completed.
