The bird is boldly scaled and has a pale face, eye is large and black, and ear-coverts have dark patch. It is different from Plain-backed Thrush and Long-tailed Thrush by golden-olive upperparts which have bold black scaling, and across wings are golden-olive panels and has dark bar at the tip of primary coverts. In juveniles, more barred than scaly upperparts, and distinctly spotted breast.
