Mr. Richard Stallman, a renowned programmer and free-software advocate gave a talk on 27 October, followed by an engaging interaction with students and free software enthusiasts. The talk was organised by the Open Source Developers Group (OSDG) as part of IIIT’s 25th anniversary celebrations. 

Richard Stallman is a programmer and free-software advocate who founded the Free Software Foundation and launched the GNU Project of which he is the lead architect and organizer. He has been a longtime advocate for the free software movement, as well as pioneered the concept of copyleft.

The Open Source Developers Group at IIIT Hyderabad is dedicated to helping student developers improve their skills and contribute to the open-source community in a multitude of ways. Officially, it falls under the Center for Open Source at IIITH and is a completely student-run organisation. The group also hosts several of its own initiatives, like community projects and seminars, to help cultivate the open-source culture in the student community.
