Identifying Features

House sparrows are 6" long with 10" wingspans. They are dark brown and gray with some black on their throat and upper chest. The males have a richer red to their brown.

Habitat & Range

House sparrows live in fields throughout much of North America, excluding northern Canada and Alaska. They are also found on the eastern side and most western side of South America.

House sparrows are native to Europe.

Behavior

House sparrows eat seeds and insects.

Their call is a series of chirps, or a husky chir-up.
